Clean Eating Sloppy Joes

For years I bought Sloppy Joe sauce in a can --- never thinking about the ingredients in it. When I started my clean eating habits, this was definitely a family favorite that we missed.

I came across this recipe and it was a HUGE hit! My daughter, who rarely eats meat, gobbled this up, and my husband had two sandwiches. A definite crowd pleaser!

Better yet, it was VERY easy. I could kick myself for not making these sooner!


  • 1.5 pounds lead ground turkey
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium red pepper, diced
  • 1 medium green pepper, diced
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1, 15 oz can of tomato sauce (no sugar added)
  1. Heat oil in a large skillet. Add turkey meat and cook.
  2. Add in all other ingredients, stirring occasionally. 
  3. Let simmer on stove until serving.
**Yields about 8 sloppy joes, depending on how "sloppy" you like them :) 

We like to use sandwich thins for our hamburger buns, but these also make great open face sandwiches. Sprinkle with a little cheddar cheese for some added flavor!
